🤔 Why drink your coffee black?

Having black coffee means you can enjoy it at any time of the day, particularly during your fasting period. Black coffee has no calories, and drinking it several times a day without syrups or sugar may even help us with our weight.

But don’t worry, if you do not like your coffee black there are several science-backed ways that you can adapt your taste.

🤏 A ‘small changes’ approach

Any change that requires a major shift in our usual routine is less likely to be adopted. Instead, start with small changes. Make a note of the amount of milk and sugar you have in your coffee, and reduce this by a tiny bit every day until your taste buds adapt. Then repeat, until you barely notice any difference or even prefer your coffee black.

It’s all about forming a habit

Habit formation is the process by which a behaviour, through regular repetition, becomes automatic. People develop an infinite number of habits with or without being aware of it, and easing into it through smaller daily changes can make it less of a conscious effort until it becomes spontaneous!

☕ Explore your coffee taste!

Have you heard of coffee cupping? That’s how coffee is tasted all around the world by producers and buyers, and it’s to check the quality or aromas of a coffee batch. The five essential criteria for coffee tasting are sweetness, body, acidity, flavours, and finish.

ℹ️ Fun fact: When tasting coffee, you have to slurp it, so it sprays your entire mouth and lets the subtle aromas and flavours reach your nose.

Normally, beginning tasters can only taste coffee, if that’s the case, try another sip. Can you taste fruit notes, a nutty hint, or even some type of flower? Exploring your coffee taste allows you to rediscover and love its richness and flavour. You can often find coffee tasting experiences all around, and you can even create your own tasting at home!

To sum it up: getting into the habit of drinking black coffee has benefits to health, and may help with weight control. If you like your coffee with added extras, try adding a pinch less of sugar, and a splash less of milk, every day. Finally, go to a coffee tasting or create your own at home, to explore your likings and enjoy the process!
